Why Is My Car Sitting Lower on One Wheel

A broken suspension spring is the reason why your car is sitting lower on one wheel. Another sign that you’ve broken the suspension spring is you will hear a clunk coming from that wheel every time you drive over a bump. Demore’s Automotive can replace the broken suspension spring for you. We can also repair your vehicle’s suspension if it has something else going on with it. Let’s talk about the different suspension problems in this blog post.

Feeling All the Bumps

A sign that you need a new set of struts and shocks is feeling all of the bumps is you drive over them. You know how comfortable your automobile is. If there is a change to that comfort level, your shocks and struts have likely worn out and need to be replaced. These are the suspension parts that are designed to absorb the bumps in the road so you don’t feel them while you are driving.

Feeling Oil on the Shocks

If you reach up underneath your rear wheels and touch the shock absorbers, they should not feel oily. If they do, they are leaking and need to be replaced. Most vehicles are equipped with shocks on the rear wheels only. In other words, you likely have struts on your front wheels. It’s a good idea to occasionally check the shocks for oil, as this is an indication that they have reached the end of their lifespan.

Feeling the Momentum Motion

Momentum motion is the movement your vehicle’s body makes while you drive. In other words, if your vehicle didn’t have struts and shocks as part of the suspension, you would feel the body lurch forward when you stop, lurch backward when you pick up speed, and lean when you go around corners. If your automobile is doing this, you need to replace the struts and the shocks.

Having Problems Steering

The steering system parts generally last for the life of your automobile, but you should still have the steering system checked occasionally to make sure everything is okay. If you hear groaning or moaning when you make turns, or if you are finding it difficult to control your automobile with the steering wheel, there’s a problem in the system that needs to be addressed.

Pulling to the Side

Finally, one common suspension problem is wheels that are out of alignment. When this happens, your vehicle will fight to go straight. In other words, it should go straight naturally until such time as you turn the steering wheel. When the wheels are not aligned, the vehicle will pull to the left or to the right.
