What You Can Do to Prevent Back Pain on Long Drives

Whether you’re setting off on your next big family road trip or you’re hauling and towing goods cross country, if you’re sitting in the driver’s seat for hours on end, you’re going to be facing some serious back pain. Sitting in one position doing the same task for an extended period of time can get strenuous, especially if you’re slouching or hunching over, don’t give yourself breaks, or your vehicle is bouncing and shaking. So make sure you can stay comfortable, and avoid back pain and a trip to the chiropractor by following these tips to avoid back pain on long drives!

Sit Up Straight and Get Comfortable

Sitting in a hunched over position while driving is a sure-fire way to guarantee back pain behind the wheel! So make sure you’re sitting up straight so your spine has the support it needs. Just make sure you’re comfortable and a good distance away from the steering wheel and pedals so you don’t have to stretch or slouch down to reach them!

Take Any Opportunity to Get Out and Walk Around

After driving for a while, you’re going to need to stretch your legs and readjust to be able to get through the rest of your trip, so keep an eye out for highway rest stops or gas stations so you can take the opportunity to get out and walk around. This way you can get some of the pressure off of your back and stretch your muscles to relieve some tension.

Make Sure Any Auto Repairs are Taken Care of Before Hitting The Road

If your suspension is off or your wheels are misaligned, it can make for a bumpy ride, causing more strain on your back, neck, and shoulders. Not only this, but you’re putting yourself at greater risk of accidents and collisions. Prevent this by taking your car to see a trusted mechanic before you hit the road so that you can be sure that every part of your vehicle is in optimal driving condition.

Follow these steps, and your risk of serious back pain and strain should be reduced considerably! Have safe travels, and stay comfortable!
