What Filters Will I Find in My Automobile?

Your car, truck, or utility vehicle has either three or four primary filters that need to be changed regularly. Demore’s Automotive can help with filter inspections and replacements. It’s important you change these filters when they need cleaning to ensure that your automobile is always running as efficiently as possible. Clogged filters can cause serious problems including being unable to start your vehicle.

Air

There is an air filter in the engine that cleans the air before it is sent to the combustion chamber. You only want clean air in the combustion chamber to avoid causing damage. The air filter can get clogged if it isn’t changed once you’ve driven 12,000 miles. It can also get clogged if it isn’t changed annually if you don’t drive 12,000 miles in a year. A dirty air filter will cause serious engine performance issues and increase your vehicle’s fuel consumption.

Cabin

If your automobile is equipped with a cabin air filter, it should be changed every 30,000 miles to ensure that you are always breathing clean and fresh air. This air filter is responsible for purifying the air that blows into the passenger cabin. A sign that your cabin filter needs to be changed is a feeling of sickness every time you’re inside your automobile. This can include getting headaches and feeling fatigued.

Fuel

The fuel filter purifies your vehicle’s gasoline or diesel fuel twice to make sure it has zero contaminants and zero sediment in it. As with the air, you always want clean fuel in your combustion chamber. Dirty fuel can gunk up the fuel injectors, pistons, and cylinders and cause damage. The fuel filter needs to be changed every two years or when you have driven 30,000 miles. A clean fuel filter not only protects your engine but also keeps it cleaner and boosts its performance.

Oil

Finally, when we change your oil, we change the oil filter at the same time, so the oil filter needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. This filter works tirelessly to keep the oil clean and fresh. As the oil flows through your engine, it picks up dirt and debris so that it does not stick to the engine parts. Before the oil flows through the engine again, the oil filter removes all of the dirt and debris so that you have clean motor oil once again.

If you can’t remember the last time you had your automobile’s filters changed, call Demore’s Automotive in Palmer, MA, to schedule a filter inspection and replacement.
