Summer is here and the heat is rising. Demore’s Automotive understands how uncomfortable it is to get into your car after it has been parked in the sun. The interior is extremely hot, which is why you should never leave kids or pets in the car (even for a brief period of time), and the steering wheel and seats scald your hands and legs. There are a few things you can do that will keep the interior a bit cooler, even if you are parked in the sun. We can also check your AC to make sure it won’t break down.
Shades Really Work
Windshield and window shades really work in helping to prevent the sun from heating up the interior of your car, truck, or UV. Install window shades on each of the windows that you can pull down after you park. Purchase a windshield shade that is large enough to fit the inside of the windshield to prevent the sun from coming in through the front of the vehicle. Take advantage of your automatic back window shade or purchase one if you don’t have one.
So Do Towels
Towels help, too, but in a different way. Take an old hand towel and use it to cover the steering wheel so it doesn’t get heated up by the sun’s rays. Take old bath towels or beach towels and use them to cover all of the seats. Cover the center console and dashboard, too, to prevent them from getting too hot. This prevents you from being scalded when you get in the car.
Facilitate Airflow
It’s also important to facilitate airflow through the vehicle to keep the inside a tiny bit cooler. Once you have parked your automobile, crack the windows and sun/moon roof if you have one. This allows the air to flow through the cracks if there is a breeze. Even if the air is still, the heat will flow out of the cracks and keep the interior a bit cooler. Not cool enough for kids and pets, however.
Park With a Plan
Finally, plan how you park your automobile when you are heading out and about. Check to see if there are parking garages nearby that will keep your vehicle out of the sun. Utilize them if there are. Also, plan to park in parking lots that have shady trees if there aren’t garages.
As we mentioned above, Demore’s Automotive in Palmer, MA, can also help by inspecting your vehicle’s AC to make sure it is functioning efficiently and effectively.
