Common Problems With Jeeps

Exhaust Manifold Leaks

Many Jeep models ranging from 1987 to 2009 tend to develop cracks in their exhaust manifolds. After years of expanding and contracting when the engine heats up and cools down, the metal out of which the manifold is made will succumb to the pressure and crack.

Clogged Fuel Injectors

Jeep’s 4.0-liter engine can also have trouble with clogged fuel injectors. If your Jeep’s injectors are clogged, you will start to have engine performance problems such as sputtering and lagging. Professionally cleaning the injectors solves the problem.

Clogged Throttle Body

The Jeep Cherokee is susceptible to a clogged throttle body if your model was manufactured from 1990 to 2002. The Wrangler can also suffer from this problem, which causes the throttle position sensor to fail and your engine to stall when the Jeep is idling.

Failing Transfer Case

If you drive a Jeep that is a 4WD, it is equipped with a transfer case to allow you to switch between 2WD and 4WD. This case is mini-transmission, if you will, with a gear system and oil to lubricate it. The seals can break and leak the oil, which causes the case to fail.

Malfunctioning Power Module

Newer Jeeps are equipped with what Chrysler calls the Totally Integrated Power Module or TIPM. This is an electrical relay that distributes the electrical power. Unfortunately, this relay can malfunction and cause strange things such as a randomly honking horn to occur.

Overflowing Fuel

The pump should turn off automatically when you fill your Jeep’s tank, but, unfortunately, some Wrangler and Liberty models allow the fuel to overflow out of the tank’s neck rather than cutting the pump. We can replace the filler neck to solve this problem.

Corroded Circuit Board

If you drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, you may end up with a corroded taillight circuit board. This will prevent the taillight from lighting up. Replacing the bulb will not help because the circuit board is the problem, not the bulb. We can replace the board.
