Five Common Problems With Your Vehicle’s AC

The worst time for an air conditioner to malfunction is summertime, and summertime is upon us. If your car, truck, CUV, or SUV’s AC doesn’t cool down the cabin like it used to, bring your vehicle into Demore’s Automotive for an air conditioning system inspection. We’ll see if any of the following five common issues are the problem. If not, we’ll still find out why your AC is malfunctioning and fix it.

Excess Moisture

Basically, your vehicle’s AC cools the interior air with refrigerant and by forcing the hot air outside. As the hot air flows through the AC system, it deposits debris and excess moisture because part of cooling the air is drying it out. The combination of dirt and moisture can build up in the AC system and prevent it from refrigerating the air.

Mold and Mildew

Other things that build up inside your vehicle’s AC system and vents are bacteria, fungi, and – yuck – micro-organisms. In other words, mold, and mildew. This might not necessarily affect the AC’s cooling ability, but it can make you sick and your cabin stink. Signs of AC illness include fatigue and headaches. A good system cleaning will do the trick.

Low Refrigerant

Freon has been replaced with environmentally-safe refrigerants in air conditioning systems in your automobile and your home. These fluids don’t last forever, which is why it’s a good idea to have your car, truck, or crossover’s AC inspected every spring. We can top off the refrigerant if it’s low to boost the AC’s cooling ability in the cabin.

Dirty Condenser

The condenser is what cools the refrigerant vapors as they are pushed through by the AC’s compressor. This cools the air coming into the cabin, as well, and if the condenser is dirty or blocked, it cannot cool anything. Many things can clog a condenser, including debris, dirt, grime, moisture residue, or a combination of all of these things.

Malfunctioning Parts

The most common malfunctioning part in an automobile AC system is the compressor. Other issues include problems with the compressor clutch, the pressure switch, refrigerant leaks, and faulty valves. If any of these things are malfunctioning, you won’t get cold air in the cabin when you turn on the AC. We’ll find the part and replace it.

Located in Palmer, MA, Demore’s Automotive would be happy to inspect your vehicle’s AC system if it isn’t blowing cold air as it should be. You can call us for an appointment or visit us online today!
